The Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants and Promotion of Toxic Substance Release Calculation Guidance(2017)

The achievements made in this project are summarized as follows: 1) The latest information on the Stockholm Convention and international control strategies of the pentadecafluorooctanoic acid, short-chain chlorinated paraffins, dicofol, decabromodiphenyl ether and hexachlorobutadiene are collected, and propose control strategies of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) for related administrative agencies in Taiwan. 2) The working-group seminars are held in according to the “National Implementation Plan of the Republic of China (R.O.C., Taiwan) under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants” (NIP) to gather the achievements made by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Ministry of Health and Welfare, Council of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and renew the National Report of POPs in 2016; the project renews content of the “POPs Website”, of which the function are also expanded. 3) The release quantities reporting of designated toxic substances are checked and analyzed in according to the toxic substance release calculation guidance in 2016. The dimethyl formamide is the main substance, of which the release quantities are about 88.16% of all the national reported quantities. This project also has accomplished 25 on-site consultation of toxic substance release reporting and improved 538 entries of reporting deficiencies. The project also provided the release quantities records in 2016 for the public reference. 4) The project have gathered and renewed the National Report of mercury management achievement in 2016 from related administrative agencies in according to the “Promotion plan for implementation of Minamata Convention of United Nations”. Additionally, the project also renews content of the website to enhance public awareness of mercury。
